ITC is the largest independent electricity transmission company in the U.S. – owner and operator of high-voltage transmission systems in eight states. ITC connects a variety of customers at transmission-level voltages. These include large generation and distribution utilities, municipal utility systems, rural electricity utility cooperatives, and large commercial and industrial customers. Through its three operating companies – ITC Michigan, ITC Midwest and ITC Great Plains - ITC provides utilities, and municipalities with low-cost energy to power their communities.

Since its founding in 2003, ITC has invested billions of dollars to modernize and strengthen the grid. ITC works closely with developers, economic development organizations, and public officials to understand project needs and align transmission planning accordingly. 
Through an independent regional planning process governed by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), transmission solutions are evaluated, approved, and prioritized with a focus on reliability, cost-effectiveness, and regional benefits. Once approved, ITC designs, builds, operates, and maintains infrastructure capable of supporting large-scale development and long-term economic activity.

Looking ahead, ITC is helping lead the buildout of next-generation backbone transmission through MISO’s Long Range Transmission Planning initiative. These projects are designed to strengthen regional reliability and expand access to cost-effective energy resources. For Midwestern communities, which means greater competitiveness for energy-intensive industries and improved readiness for future growth.
